Hi, I’m Jim and I am your instructor. I’ve been taking and editing photos for over 15 years, and I have been teaching my techniques for about 10 years. I’ve had my images published in national and regional publications, hung in both private homes and public businesses, I’ve twice been named one of the top 100 travel photographers in the world by online publications, I am a well-known Luminar Neo expert and Skylum Software Ambassador - and I am here to help!

I get a lot of questions about editing landscapes in Luminar Neo, and while I have many videos on my Youtube channel, this course is dedicated to this subject. By following along with each video, you will gain a deep understanding of how to control your images. This mini-course will take your edits to the next level!

Why is this called a mini-course?

I call this a mini-course because it is just a few videos, and focused on one thing: editing landscapes. While it is PACKED with information and tips about how to get the best results, it is not something that will take you days or weeks to get through. It’s just under 2 hours of instruction, so you can quickly get through it and start applying these principles to your own images. You will see an immediate impact on your results.

What is this mini-course about?

This mini-course is focused on editing landscapes in Luminar Neo. It includes full, end-to-end video demonstrations of my process, taking the raw file from start to finish. You will learn about my approach to editing, and follow along with my actual raw files as we edit together. You will learn about managing the light, color and detail throughout an image. Each video will also include the use of a lot of masks, so you will also pick up a lot of masking instruction along the way. I have also included a 15 minute bonus video dedicated only to masking, showing how to get the most out of these powerful tools. You will end with a full understanding of how to get the best possible outcomes when editing your own landscapes.

Who is this mini-course for?

This mini-course is for anyone that loves to photograph and edit landscapes photos, from beginner to advanced users. It is based on Luminar Neo and uses very specific tools in Luminar Neo, but the approach is broadly applicable if you also use other apps to edit.

What do I need to get started?

You will need a full working copy of Luminar Neo, including the HDR Merge extension (which is used on 1 image). Everything else comes with this course: 4 raw files, 4 companion tutorial videos, 1 masking tutorial video, 10 landscapes presets and 10 sunset sky overlays as a bonus!

Do I need to be advanced with Luminar already?

This course is beginner-friendly. I start with basic edits and then move into masking in order to control the edit better. I explain every move I make, as I make them. While I do go slow and discuss the masks and how/why to apply them, I assume you already have at least a little bit of experience with them. In other words, the background detail explaining every nuance of the masking tools is not as detailed as it is in my Luminar Neo Masking Masterclass, which is focused only on masking. But masking is a critical skill in landscape editing and thus each video has a lot of masking included. This course also includes a 15 minute bonus video all about masking, to help you get up to speed quickly.

This mini-course includes all of the following:

  • VIDEOS

4 editing videos - nearly 2 hours of content - teaching how I edit my landscapes and sharing all my best tips, tricks, ideas and insights

  • MASKING

A 15 minute bonus video all about masking, showing how the tools work and how to use them for the best results

Here’s a video preview of the course, along with a demo of how I approach landscape editing in Luminar Neo. This will give you a good idea about what the course includes.

Here are the actual before and after images we edit together in this course.

You will be getting all 4 raw files and following along as we take the image from beginning to end. Each video is a methodical, step-by-step approach to getting the best results. You will learn about masking, controlling light and color, and more. We even take one of the images and create a single-exposure HDR with a full demo of that.
