Something a bit different today

A I have mentioned previously, I do like taking shots of flowers, for some unknown reason.  I usually catch them in their natural element, or something close to it.  In this case, I came home one day to find this interesting specimen in a vase on the kitchen table, and immediately knew I wanted to shoot it.  I have no idea what kind of flower it is (anyone out there know?) but I was drawn in by all the texture and other interesting stuff.  So I dropped him on a glass table by my big front window, letting as much light as was available shine down on him.  I don't use off-camera flash, and really have no idea about that whole part of the photographic world, but I liked what I could do in this case.  It is very different from my typical stuff, at least to me, but I found it interesting and fun, and isn't that what it should be about?  Exploring and trying new things?  I sure think so, and hope to keep pushing myself to do different things so that I learn as much as possible.  It's a great journey to be on...
