The view from Alcove House

I was in Santa Fe, NM recently and had the opportunity to drive out to Bandelier National Monument, which is less than an hour away.  Despite having been in Santa Fe (and other parts of Northern New Mexico) many times, I had never made it to this place before.  I’m glad I did this time.

It’s an incredibly interesting place that resides deep in a canyon.  There are both petroglyphs and ancient dwelling carved into the rock cliffs.  It’s cool to be in the presence of something that has been inhabited by humans for thousands of years.

The largest (and hardest to reach - up several wooden ladders and multiple steps carved into the stone cliff face) dwelling is known as Alcove House and it’s pretty sizable.  It was a rigorous climb up here, but well worth it for the view and the pictures!
