Over Canary Wharf
I really enjoy my visits to London. It’s a great town (ok, actually it’s a great CITY) and there is really a lot to see and do there. Of course from a photographic perspective, there’s a lot of historic awesomeness to aim the Nikon at. In fact, I have a whole list of London stuff to shoot here on the blog.
But there is also a newer part of London, which is less historical but packs in a lot of awesomeness as well. It’s the Canary Wharf area, and that is part of what you see in the photo. Canary Wharf is a major business district and financial center on the East side of the city. While it may not be your traditional “London” photo spot, there is a lot to see here, especially if you like architecture (and I do).
I was traveling around that day with my friend Mike Murphy, an excellent photog and all around excellent gent. He had the idea to go shoot out in the area, with the plan to take the Emirates Air Line across the River Thames. The Emirates Air Line is a cable car which crosses the river, giving you this fabulous view of the Canary Wharf district and the Millennium Dome. It was pretty awesome. And that’s why I list “Make Friends Before You Go” as Tip #6 on my list of Ten Tips for Better Travel Photography. Locals know about things to do that, as a tourist, you might never get to experience.
