The old Texaco station in Driftwood
Old things are just fun to shoot.
If you have been here before, you already know that I love to shoot HDR, and in my opinion, shooting old stuff in HDR is absolutely the way to do it. Old things tend to possess a lot of character as well as being generally in bad shape, and the HDR process helps extract a lot of that detail and bring the scene to life. This of course is a personal preference. I'm sure someone else could justify why HDR is a bad idea with stuff like this.
Anyways, everyone in Austin has at some point been out to Driftwood, TX to shoot this old Texaco gas station. It's cool. Don't you agree?
In fact, I have been out here and shot it myself, quite a few years back. But a month or so ago, I got out for a day of shooting around Austin, and decided to add this to the list of spots that I wanted to shoot that day. I'm glad I did.
It was morning time and the area was completely empty, which is how I like it (and why I went in the morning). I was hoping for some drama in the sky, but struck out in that regard. You can't win them all, can you?
Nonetheless, I liked the shots and figured they might as well be shared with the world. Hope you enjoy these two photos!
