Foolproof Edits in Luminar Neo

There are a lot of great tools in Luminar Neo, which is awesome. But there are a few that I use again and again to ensure I am really controlling the edit and getting the exact look that I am going for. In this video, I walk through a full edit and show you how I like to get it done. Enjoy!

Here are a few key steps that I cover in depth:

  • Develop RAW + Supercontrast to start

  • Use masks to target your edits - Object Select, Luminosity Masks, Gradient Masks

  • Pay close attention to color across the image, and be sure to use masks

  • Note that color changes affect the light

  • Always look at and adjust for the light, throughout the entire edit

The approach I like to take is to focus on the three key elements of an edit: light, detail, and color - and I tend to focus on them in that order. But as I state above, the use of tools to control the light is done throughout the edit, as other things that I change (such as color) can affect the look of the light in certain areas.

The other key thing is to use masking tools all the time. There is not an image where you can skip masking - if you want the best results. It’s necessary, and thankfully it is quick and easy these days, especially in Luminar.
