Let’s Talk About Presets

I like presets. I like to make them and share them with you all. I also sell some in my shop, but honestly I give them away much more often. Maybe I need a business manager to rein me in!

I personally think they are very useful. They can get you started when you need a little help, or they can send you in a direction you never really considered. They can also help you learn the tools in a program, and I think that part is KEY.

Using presets designed by a photographer whose style you like gives you the ability to see inside their thinking a little bit. You can see what tools they like and how they apply them.

But the best part is that you can then adjust them to fit your image or your style. It’s not just an editing shortcut - it’s an educational shortcut, too.

And yes, I have more presets coming soon-ish. You’ll be the first to know, since I will share it here before anywhere else.

And if for some reason you don’t have all my free presets, you can get them here: https://jimnix.com/free

By the way, my favorite editor Luminar Neo has made several improvements to their preset functionality in the last couple of months. In the video below, I dive into all of that and show you what to look for, and where.

I also include the download of a free RAW file and we walk through the creation of a preset together in the video, using that RAW file. It’s fun! Check it out and let me know if you have any questions.
