How to Improve Your Photo Editing
I get asked a lot about how to improve editing skills, so I thought I would share a few quick tips here. I will likely come back and expand upon this in a longer blog post, but this is the approach I would take if I was new to this art.
Focus on one product and go deep, and learn everything you can about it. Don’t jump from app to app. You’ll learn so much and your skills will transfer to other apps.
Use presets to start, which is a great way to learn a product. My blog post this week dives into that topic.
After learning presets and using them to jump-start your education, branch out to develop deeper skills in that app. This is using lots of different tools as well as learning masking, layers, and more.
Then try other apps if you are interested, or feel you want to try something new. Your skills will transfer - trust me.
Practice, practice, practice. This goes without saying, right?
It’s a simple approach but it works. And admittedly, I did not do this. I jumped from app to app a lot and while I got a broad education about various apps, I never got that deep into any one app and I think it caused me to learn slower. Hope it helps!
